Flash is for designers, Flex is for developers.

A few posts from around the interweb this week covered similar ground in different ways.

1) Nice ‘step-by-step’ article describing the new-skool way to separate form and function when developing for the Flash 9 Player. Where I previously used FDT/Eclipse for development and the Flash IDE for asset creation we can now embrace the Flex IDE for dev and stick with Flash CS for assets. – BIG SPACESHIP LABS / ยป Flash IDE for Designers – Flexbuilder for Developers

2) …and along similar lines, this link that describes accessing the document class of an externally loaded swf with AS3.

3) And now Adobe steps into the ring with this online seminar where Samuel Asher Rivello talks about how to combine the strengths of the Stage, timeline, and library in Flash CS3 Professional with the Flex 3 ActionScript 3.0 editor to improve the productivity of your Flash projects. This presentation covers an overview of Flash CS3 and its typical workflows, an introduction to Flex 3 and its typical workflows, benefits of a new, innovative Flash/Flex workflow as well as setup and best practices.
